Cell phone: 084-801-8019 Peter Vale is Professor of Humanities at the University of Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Chair of Politics Emeritus at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, and is Faculty. He is a Fellow of STIAS – the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. Vale is the Co-Chair (with Jonathan Jansen) of a Consensus Panel looking into the future of the Humanities in South Africa. Professor Vale has published extensively in a number of fields – International Relations (and its theory), Politics, Social Theory, and on developments in higher education in South Africa especially the Humanities. His most recent book (edited with Heather Jacklin) Re-Imaging the Social in South Africa: Critique & Post-Apartheid Knowledge was in October, 2009. A new book A century of cartoons on South Africa’s International Relations will shortly be published by Otterley Press in late-2010. He is a recipient of a number of awards. These include the International Medal of the University of Utrecht and the Senior Research Award from Rhodes University. He has been a Fellow at New York University and enjoyed positions in the UK, Germany, Norway, The Netherlands and Australia. Peter Vale is an energetic contributor to the media and writes a monthly column in the Daily Dispatch and Business Day. He also regularly writes on Higher Education for the Mail & Guardian.
